# Depend on another extension

> Declare Composer dependencies and collect definitions independently of provider order.

When a family depends on a component registered by another service provider, use
`collectFamily()` in your provider's ordinary `boot()` method:

```php theme={"theme":{"light":"github-light","dark":"github-dark"}}
public function boot(ComponentRegistrar $components): void
{
    $components->collectFamily([
        new ComponentRegistration(
            new ComponentDefinition(
                id: 'acme-summary-field',
                kind: ComponentKind::Field,
                uses: ['partner-rating-field'],
            ),
        ),
    ]);
}
```

Install the package that supplies `partner-rating-field`. Both providers may
collect their definitions in either order. FLEX checks the whole collection after
the ordinary providers have booted; an unresolved dependency or collision rejects
that collection. Pending definitions are not available for rendering before that
commit. Each family still has its own 128-member limit.

The application registry becomes read-only after this commit. Registering from a
request, a queue job or a later `booted()` callback raises a configuration error.
Restart long-running workers when updating your package's definitions. Use
`registerFamily()` when all dependencies are already registered or are included in
the same family.
